TELL ME WHO…
Have you ever had a favorite song which you started singing when you were little and could remember all the lyrics and melody throughout these years? I have; it’s a Thai song called “TELL ME WHO”, or “KRAI NAW” and it was written by one of our favorite Thai musicians, Mr. Surapon Tonovanik in 1955.
I should like to give you the meaning of the song first and maybe you’d like to sing along with the karaoke words below.
The song begins by asking:
“Tell me who… love us as much as life (as much as life)
Tell me who…are always and forever kind (forever kind)
Tell me who…love us and not only our body
Their love is untiring
Never wanting to hurt us….Tell me who
Tell me who….hug us always to their chest
Tell me who… always spoil and console us best
Tell me who…love us more than their eyes
Their love is greater than
The earth…plus the sky
If you use the world…as a pen
The sky…as a sheet of paper
And all the water in the oceans…as ink
That’s not even close to telling about their kindness
Tell me who….love us as much as life (as much as life)
Tell me who… let us ride on their shoulder(Daddy-Mummy)
Tell me who…lure us to sleep at night
If you know who…don’t even wait
Just repay their kindness
If you use the world…as a pen
The sky…as a sheet of paper
And all the water in the oceans…as ink
That’s not even close to telling about their kindness
Tell me who….love us as much as life (as much as life)
Tell me who… let us ride on their shoulder(Daddy-Mummy)
Tell me who…lure us to sleep at night
If you know who…don’t even wait
Just repay their kindness”
And now that you know the meaning of the song, maybe you’d like to sing along with the song itself. I’ve made a karaoke out of it, but of course my above English translation can, with some maneuvering, be sung to the tune also.Tell me who…are always and forever kind (forever kind)
Tell me who…love us and not only our body
Their love is untiring
Never wanting to hurt us….Tell me who
Tell me who….hug us always to their chest
Tell me who… always spoil and console us best
Tell me who…love us more than their eyes
Their love is greater than
The earth…plus the sky
If you use the world…as a pen

Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)
Now that we’ve enjoyed the Thai children-talk-about-parents song, I feel this blog would be incomplete if I did not supplement it with an American lady-talks-about-her-sweetheart-and-children song. Can you guess what the song is? A hint – it’s everybody’s favorite song, originally sung by Doris Day, who, as one of her ardent admirers wrote, was one of the most talented, most beloved, most popular, and most successful stars in her day.
But before hearing this well-known song which has been translated into 8 foreign languages (Polish, Tamil, Yiddish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Japanese and French), let us find out a little bit more about it.
Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be) is a popular song written by the Jay Livingston and Ray Evans songwriting team. It was first published in the Alfred Hitchcock film The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) starring Doris Day and James Stewart.
And now that we are acquainted with the song’s background, let enjoy and sing along with it.
Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)
Music by Jay Livingston and Lyrics by Ray Evans
When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty, will I be rich
Here's what she said to me.
Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.
When I was young, I fell in love
I asked my sweetheart what lies ahead
Will we have rainbows, day after day
Here's what my sweetheart said.
Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.
Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother, what will I be
Will I be handsome, will I be rich
I tell them tenderly.
Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.
